Grand Opening! The day has come and we are finally having
our grand opening. We have been trained, prepped, and ready for a few weeks
now. We had a very successful soft opening we even had a past contestant on
Martha Stewarts’ Apprentice Carrie Gugger video blog about us. Please view the
video about us and it will give you a better understanding about what we are
about. It felt so great to see families

families how to create junk bots using simple circuits and motors. Children are so proud that they created and

It's that time again, seasons greetings from me to you. I hope everyone is having happy holidays.<br />
<br />
Hotel Del Coronado had a spectacular holiday performance called An All American Christmas performed by the Lamb's Theater actors. The performance transports you back in time to the early 1900's, everyone feels like family and with every meal there is a song and dance. The show, venue, and food was delectable. My family and I enjoyed every minute of it and thought it was a perfect way to spend the Christmas holiday. For anyone who loves history, dinner theaters, and the feeling of family this performance is a must see. Book tickets early for optimal seating.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215882436619112705.post-44767234592921984592012-03-28T11:21:00.001-07:002012-03-28T11:21:50.046-07:00Snow 5,000 ft. It was incredible. The snow on one side and the view of the ocean on the other. honestly it was the best of both worlds. To top it off I went with my two best-friends. Life couldn't be better :).<br />

It can go from being perfect to completely chaotic. Change is hard for everyone from a preschooler who is leaving their mother for the first time to a recent college graduate who is now beginning their Career in the “Real World.” The important thing about change is that it brings new trials and new bliss. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">With change, you have the choice to run and hide from it or to use it as a way to explore and create a new path. though it can be a terrifying thing, the uncertainty. What person doesn't want a new adventure in their life? What person doesn't want to say they lived their life to the fullest? Change and choices are necessary. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Every person experiences change and makes choices in life. Most feel they want limited change and settle with easy choices. But, following that methodology will only hold the person back from what they really want. They live with regret of I wish I would have… What if… Could I have…Excuses are what hold people back. Excuses such as, I have to go to school I have to have this credential, license, degree before I have that. I’m here to tell you NO. If you have the drive the persistence and the ambition you can make it in whatever you want happen. Yes, it is a change but get up and be the person you were born to be. How are you living? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hoeg6HbNJXE/T00SB2Pnc4I/AAAAAAAAA6E/hmBbl0NoW1Y/s1600/020+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hoeg6HbNJXE/T00SB2Pnc4I/AAAAAAAAA6E/hmBbl0NoW1Y/s640/020+(2).JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

I spent a day in the city and basically spent most of my time searching for shade, a cool place or a fountain to cool down. My first stop was the house where I grew up over 22 years ago. I remember loving summer because the fire department would release the water pressure from the fire hydrants creating an instant water park for all the kids on my block. We went to my first elementary school and passed by the best place in Chicago for Italian Beef Sandwiches- Al’s Beef. After going down memory lane my uncle and I went to Millennium Park. This park was filled with art and architectural wonders. There is the “Cloud Gate” AKA Millennium bean, <span class="apple-style-span"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial;">LED projection glass towers titled "Crown Fountain,"</span></span><span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial;"> and outdoor stadium. After taking tons of pictures of Cloud Gate we walked down to the Chicago River where we took a ferry and learned about the different architectural designs of early Chicago. Here is a fun fact the same builder who built the Trump Tower in Chicago is building the Freedom Tower in New York (there are many similarities). The passengers and I rode down the river admiring the tall buildings such as the Boeing Tower, Wrigley’s Tower and of course the Willis Tower formally the Sears tower. I do have to say going down the river did remind me of the scene in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” minus being madly in love with my best friend. The Ferry was fantastic but toward the end I was feeling as if I was turning into a refried bean. I bought a drink right after and we headed back north to hangout with my family.</span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial;"><br />

Lake Powell was amazing! The arches, and tall boulders that seem to be hanging by a thread are fascinating and of course the jet skiing, wake boarding, fishing, and BBQ-ing. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NoPIE8NLAr4/TyQtU2bCLxI/AAAAAAAAA5U/PweSiqwX04Q/s1600/Lake_Powell_2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NoPIE8NLAr4/TyQtU2bCLxI/AAAAAAAAA5U/PweSiqwX04Q/s1600/Lake_Powell_2011.jpg" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215882436619112705.post-81962096003701758452011-11-11T14:41:00.000-08:002011-11-11T14:41:17.568-08:00Building Business Through RelationshipsNewland General Construction will be in it's first year of existence in February 2012. I felt like it was time I wrote down a few things I've learned about starting a business in hopes that it can help someone else. <div><br />
</div><div>We always knew we were going to start a construction company, I just had no idea how soon it was going to be. The day my husband said he wanted to try it out I was soooo excited because I knew that between the two of us we were going to really make it happen. </div><div><br />
</div><div>The first few months were tough because, we really didn't know that many people in San Diego and especially people who needed us to do the work. It was a time that we focused most of our attention on networking, building relationships and making sure that each customer's experience was fabulous. </div><div><br />
</div><div>During this time of course we asked ourselves a million questions like... Am I doing this right? should I be doing this? and the most important... How am I going to pay for all the materials and keep cash flow in check? A few times I offered to go back to work but, we both knew to really make this company work we needed the two of us.</div><div><br />
</div><div>After a while of a million questions and decisions we found a rhythm that worked for us. At this time we began attending workshops with SCORE and began networking with other business owners who were encountering the same daily issues that we were going through. Sometimes when you start a business you feel alone like no one else understands, but these workshops helped us in establishing networks with other business owners who have already gone through the hoops and most of the time are very willing to help a start up. These relationships along with client relationships is what helped us build more confidence. </div><div><br />
</div><div>We continue to get new clients everyday and make sure each one has an excellent experience because, most of our current work is from past clients who were impressed with our services. Those relationships are important to maintain because they lead to referrals and consistency in work. And, when there is consistency we have a better understanding of how many resources we can have to help the company grow. </div><div><br />
</div><div>So, someday we will be up there building hotels and other commercial buildings :)</div><div><br />

The first three nouns I can think of to describe New York are culture, lights, and energy. I know this blog is primarily about the West Coast but I have to give my East Coast followers some kudos for you have the liveliest and fastest paced city I have ever been to. Let’s just say I think I fell in love with your city. Everything from the food to the happy hours was extraordinary. I was only in the city for a couple of day which of course wasn’t enough time but, you bet I made the most of those 2 days.<br />
<br />
First, I took the train from Rocklin County into Grand Central Station. The station is gorgeous and was crowded with passengers frantically trying to catch their trains, or patiently waiting for their New Yorker relatives or friends to come by and pick them up. We right away jumped into tourist mode and tried to see as much as we could in one day: Rockefeller, The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Radio City, Little Italy and the beautiful Natural History Museum. Of course along the way we stopped for some good eats like Shake Shack for a burger, Junior’s for Cheese Cake, and Capitale Grille.<br />
<br />
The following day was all about good ol’ Time Square we went there at night and I walked it with a great friend during the day. We also managed to find our way down to the financial district almost getting lost in the subway system due to weekday closures. My friend was in the market for an apartment and while we were down there we visited one that was facing onto ground zero. Almost 10 year later and you can still feel the emotion and pain of that day. I don’t think there is a single New Yorker who didn’t lose someone or knew of someone who lost. It was very powerful. After we paid our respects we headed down to Wall Street where I saw the building in which our first USA President was inaugurated. I love the old buildings and coblt stone roads we ended up stopping at Ulysses for a bite and then proceeded to hop back on the subway and walked to Dallas BBQ for some well deserved drinks. After all that I went back to grand central, headed up north. While on the train I was going through all of my pictures, and I remember thinking to myself, “This is the first of many trips to the big apple.”<br />

Below are some images and a video clip of the performance. We were dressed in our finest Mardi Gras attire because we started the show with the Masquerade scene from the Phantom of the Opera. Enjoy :)<br />

It is terribly important to get out of the monotony every once and a while and allow yourself to travel and enjoy different locations. A lot of times when you come back from your travels you come back with a sense of achievement of being able to live outside of your comfort zone and exploring or getting lost in a new location. I felt just that, and I also felt a sense of serenity too. I was entranced with all of the amazing lush gardens and the gigantic trees that made me realize how small I really am. I love those trips… and I can’t wait to do it again. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

The grounds is a perfect morning or evening walk, but beware there are rattle snakes. The bluffs are amazing and the ocean view simply gorgeous. We decided to take the jeep and do it the real Cali way. We walked the easy trail to the beach flat and we came across many great picture opportunity's. The best part was driving and walking through the Torrey pines and admiring the big blue ocean.<br />

I fell in love with this piece while I was in Washington. This Eye Candy Fusion Art piece was made with the brightest bottles the artist could find and the colored dots were actually glass gems for vases. I wish I would have picked up her business card… for now I can admire her talent and hopefully I will see some version of this piece again. Moral of the story if you are traveling and you LOVE something that will remind you of the place you are visiting buy it, or ask for a business card. Enjoy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LQLEWn-jT0g/TbhUzjNNQqI/AAAAAAAAAt4/EAr5P8iTFhQ/s1600/bottles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Bottle Art" border="0" height="489" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LQLEWn-jT0g/TbhUzjNNQqI/AAAAAAAAAt4/EAr5P8iTFhQ/s640/bottles.jpg" title="Bottle Art" width="640" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

The Market is downtown overlooking the bay every Saturday. There is plenty of fresh local produce along with vendors of all types. I love the eclectic food, the delicious pastries, and the overall environment. The art is also very impressive with paintings and boutiques all over Little Italy.<br />

Point Loma Cabrillo National Park offers the best Skyline view of San Diego. I remember my first time there. I walked through the National Park Visitors center and onto an outdoor terrace where all I could think of was WOW! The pictures do not do this beautiful landscape justice. To experience it you must go see it.<br />
<br />
Along, with the amazing views there is also the Point Loma Lighthouse, though it is cramped and small on the inside, it offers an amazing spiral staircase. If you stand at the bottom of the staircase and look up it makes for a very creative photograph. Our friend Chad is giving Point Loma a thumbs up. Enjoy<br />

Everyone is trying to figure out a way to advertise effectively. The newer craze that has been out is called Flash Mobbing. Basically, people choreograph and practice a routine that usually has 300-400 people participating (depending on the cause). Then, they surprise unsuspecting crowds of people in large areas such as malls, concerts, and public areas with a song, dance, or sometimes even a frozen stance. I got to participate in one for a Primetime television show in Los Angeles... though I can't say what show until after it premier's June 6. Enjoy these images... we were also treated with an impromptu concert by Far East Movement.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6LbojCDxt0I/TbR5B_TNN8I/AAAAAAAAArM/_x-ikfvf2KI/s1600/Flash+Mob.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Flash Mob, Los Angeles" border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6LbojCDxt0I/TbR5B_TNN8I/AAAAAAAAArM/_x-ikfvf2KI/s640/Flash+Mob.jpg" title="Flash Mob, Los Angeles" width="452" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Just what the doctor ordered I really think everyone should go on a fabulous vacation at least once a year. It’s good for the soul and gets you away from the everyday grime. Our trip to Hawaii started out a little rocky it took me a day or two to get over my sinusitis (clean air sped the process)… but you can bet your sneakers that when I was better I rocked Hawaii. We did everything Oahu had to offer we went snorkeling, visited the WWII memorial, went to a luau, rented a convertible and drove up to North shore, visited the Dole plant and even saw sea turtles! We also did this amazing food tour that took us to delicious places that locals go to… let’s just say Ryan fell in love with a Hawaiian bun called manopoa…yumm. We even tried the Loco Moco as seen on the Travel Channel take a look.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6otjE4tFawE/TbSJ0ClsszI/AAAAAAAAArY/SFWRVlLEFpk/s1600/Hawai.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Hawaii" border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6otjE4tFawE/TbSJ0ClsszI/AAAAAAAAArY/SFWRVlLEFpk/s640/Hawai.jpg" title="Hawaii" width="467" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215882436619112705.post-75779924053357373142009-12-04T21:41:00.000-08:002011-05-05T00:29:13.866-07:00Introducing Scrabble PendantsHere are a few I have been working on :)<br />

<div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I love fairs… Everyone is happy, excited, gets to be a kid again. When I was a kid we went to the Del Mar Fair in San Diego the fifth largest in the nation. We got the opportunity to go this past fourth of July and watch the legendary Smokey Robinson perform. WE did it all. Ate giant turkey legs, crème puffs, kabobs, deep-fried who knows (thank goodness my digestive system was feeling better). We didn’t stop at the food we attended a wine festival at the fair and walked the fair’s harvesting garden were we learned how to grow our own vegetables and fruits. We watched the shows, animals and strolled through the many exhibits. I loved it! Above are pictures from that adventure.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div></div><div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Currently, the fair is in Bakersfield. The Kern County fair is one of my favorites because it was where Ryan and I had our first official date. So, we must attend! It’s tradition:) We are going this Monday and I am getting excited I can’t wait to see Hanson, the animals, and the exhibits. Not to mention the food! My yearly sugary funnel cake…. (note to self don’t wear black.)</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ioQO8hcaYSk/TbSP6h0tRGI/AAAAAAAAArc/t-fNEATZl3o/s1600/Fairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ioQO8hcaYSk/TbSP6h0tRGI/AAAAAAAAArc/t-fNEATZl3o/s1600/Fairs.jpg" alt="Del Mar Fair" title="Del Mar Fair" /></a></div><br />

We went the same weekend as the Mammoth Wine Festival and Gavin DeGraw was there. If you ever get the opportunity to go, do it! Especially with a group of great people.<br />
